Be a Volunteer, Not an Employee
cridn, Ponorogo - Let's change our mindset that we are volunteers, not employees. Employees only do what is in their job description, volunteers are people who are ready to do whatever the organization needs as long as they are able to do it.
Employees often consider whether a task is beneficial or not before actually being willing to do it, while volunteers immediately do it without thinking twice.
Employees will stop their work when no one is watching, volunteers continue to work without stopping even though there is no one to witness it.
The organization does not feel a loss when those with an employee mentality leave the organization, but the organization will really feel a loss when those with a volunteer mentality leave the organization, it is an unpleasant loss. Even their replacements may not be able to match their quality. These volunteers are sometimes almost irreplaceable.
When we work as volunteers, we no longer count how many hours we have spent at work. We also don't count how many ideas and thoughts we have contributed to the organization and how many of those ideas have generated huge profits for the organization.
The volunteers would not say things like this, "If it weren't for me, the company might continue to lose money and even go bankrupt. Luckily, I'm here."
The volunteers do not consider themselves to be heroes who have contributed greatly to the organization so they must be appreciated and promoted to their positions.
Their focus is to continue working and contributing to the organization without expecting anything in return or praise.
In a coaching program at an information technology company, I asked a programmer who often went home last after all the employees had gone home. "Why don't you come home on time like the others? The others are already getting ready to leave the office 15 minutes before leaving time..." His answer was short but very inspiring, "I work here not just to kill time and wait for home time." work sir, I'm here so that the company will be more trusted by all its clients.
A lot of work can be completed on time according to the client's deadline if I can add an extra hour or two to catch up with the project progress target. Instead of having to continue it tomorrow or take it home, I'd better finish it at the office.
Even if I postpone it until tomorrow, I still have to do it." In this programmer there is a volunteer spirit. I am sure he is one of the proud programmers of his company.
In an era where everything is measured by material things, being a volunteer is not easy, it requires strong sincerity. If our intentions are sincere, it is not difficult to do it.
I believe that organizations that have the potential to achieve long-term success are because they have many volunteer-minded professionals in them.
I also believe that those who will have great careers in the future are those who have a volunteer spirit.
Volunteers in organizations must be people who have big and noble goals in their careers. They are not affected by the situation and conditions within the organization, even the low work culture that surrounds the organization does not affect their motivation to contribute to the organization. They still adhere to their principles and continue to work with high commitment. (min)
